Why are websites important? In today's tech savvy world, terms such as "world wide web" and "Internet" are common place. The Internet has now grown to such heights that currently there are (-) users in the world, (-) % of which reside in the US. Web users are becoming increasingly diversified, ranging from all different age groups and ethnicities. The Internet has clearly revolutionized how people search for information and conduct business and has thus firmly placed the world in the "digital age". So, what does this mean for small and medium sized businesses such as yours? Undoubtedly, it means that if your business does not already have a website, it is time to invest in this new and exciting marketing tool that is personalized, interactive, and cost effective. Why should we care about new marketing tools? Lets not forget that marketing increases awareness about the business, keeps you ahead of the competition, and brings a steady stream of revenues. Businesses should always be searching for more successful ways to reach their consumers and websites are a new opportunity for businesses to capitalize upon. What do websites offer that traditional marketing methods do not? First of all, due to the magnitude of users of different ages and backgrounds, websites have given businesses an opportunity to target desired customers in a truly unique way. Perhaps a consumer sees an ad for a product or service on television or via a billboard on the highway. They may want to learn more but do not remember the phone number or the address, but it is far easier for them to remember the website address such as "www.widgets.com". Here we see something extremely valuable: it is no longer the business that is advertising to unwanted consumers, it is the consumers who are seeking out the website. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, websites are very cost effective. Alternative forms of marketing such as newspapers, billboards, or TV space cost a great deal of money when considered in terms of the response rate. However, once a user reaches a website, he/she is already interested in the product or service and there is thus a far higher chance of response. Imagine being an Italian restaurant owner in the area. An Internet user can go online, search for Italian cuisine and come face to face with your web site. The website could have a menu, prices, pictures of the décor, etc. Before the customer has even set foot into the restaurant, he/she knows exactly what is offered! Perhaps your restaurant wasn't even in the customer's mind before this search, but now it is what he is looking for. The best part about it is that the customer sought you out, instead of the restaurant barraging the customer with coupons in the mail when he is not interested. The decision to create a web site is an extremely important one and does not end with simply choosing to own a website. A web page is similar to the packaging on a product you see in a store. If the packaging is unappealing to the eye or does not illustrate the product benefits effectively, then more than likely it will be tossed aside for a similar product that looks more attractive. Different web sites can leave the same impression on users and this is why choosing a website designer is so important.
